G - User's choice, commonly Gauging or Gas
Reference for the ISA 5.1 first letter G. Plants without a dedicated Fire & Gas drawing usually fold gas detection into the main P&ID under G-prefix tags. Combustible gas, LEL, H2S, and oxygen detection are the three common services. Most are SIL-classified per IEC 61511 LOPA outcomes. Check the SRS for the allocation, never assume from the tag prefix alone.
