Instrument index.
The facility-wide master list. One row per instrument tag, read as drawn in any tag dialect (ISA 5.1, KKS, IEC 81346, NORSOK, or an in-house standard) and deduplicated across every P&ID and datasheet in the project. Each row carries the source sheet, the loop, the linked equipment, and any range or set point the drawing or datasheet supplied.
One row per tag, deduplicated.
The I/O list is the controls document: one row per signal, with the columns the PLC and DCS team need to assign and wire. The instrument index is the facility-wide master list: one row per instrument tag, with the columns process and maintenance engineers reference across the asset lifetime. They share the same source extraction, presented for different audiences.
The instrument index is built from every P&ID in the facility scope, deduplicated, then enriched with range and set-point data from any datasheets you upload.
Schema.
The columns marked drawing are read off the P&ID. Datasheet columns are filled from an attached instrument datasheet. Manufacturer and model are yours to complete during procurement, and every row traces to its source sheet.
| # | Column | Origin | What it carries |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Tag | drawing | Instrument tag per the drawing dialect. Deduplicated across every sheet in the facility scope. |
| 02 | Instrument type | drawing | Pressure transmitter, flow control valve, temperature switch, on / off valve. ISA 5.1 instrument type derived from the tag. |
| 03 | Service description | drawing | Process service from the drawing balloon or attached datasheet. |
| 04 | Signal class | drawing | Classified in the drawing's own convention. You confirm each class in review. |
| 05 | Sub-class | drawing | BPCS or SIS. Splits basic process control from safety per IEC 61511 separation. |
| 06 | Loop | drawing | Control-loop number. Used to group instruments that share a loop folder. |
| 07 | Linked equipment | drawing | Equipment tag the instrument is mounted on or wired to. Equipment tag the instrument is associated with. |
| 08 | P&ID sheet | drawing | Source drawing number and revision. Instruments appearing on multiple sheets list every one. |
| 09 | Datasheet ref | datasheet | Reference number of the linked instrument datasheet when present on the drawing. |
| 10 | Range | datasheet | Engineering range from the drawing or attached datasheet. |
| 11 | Units | datasheet | Engineering units, preserved exactly as on the drawing. |
| 12 | Set point | datasheet | Process set point when specified. Blank otherwise. |
| 13 | Manufacturer / model | downstream | Vendor and model number. Filled during procurement. |
| 14 | Notes / revisions | audit | Revision marker, MOC reference, calibration cycle. |

The tag convention is read from each drawing.
ISA 5.1, KKS, IEC 81346, DIN 19227, NORSOK Z-DP-002, Shell DEP, Aramco SAES, and in-house operator formats are all carried through. A multi-vendor facility with mixed conventions produces a single merged index.
