Tagsight for functional safety engineers
Four documents are supposed to describe the same SIS scope: the SIF list, the SIL determination report, the cause-and-effect matrix, and the SIS subset of the P&ID. Three of them drifted in the last revision cycle and the LOPA review catches it.
What you do today.
- Walk the P&ID set, highlighter in hand, mark every SIS instrument and every SIF
- Cross-walk the highlighted tags against the SIF list and the cause-and-effect matrix row-by-row
- Maintain the SIL determination spreadsheet against the IEC 61511 layer-of-protection analysis output
- Re-issue the SIL determination after the next P&ID revision lands and start over
What changes with Tagsight.
- Filter the extracted instrument list to SIS-classified tags in one click using the signal class + SIS tag prefix (PSH, PSL, PALL, PAH, PSV, ZSO, ZSC)
- Pull the cause-and-effect matrix from the drawing set into a sortable table; rows are initiators, columns are final elements
- Cross-walk the SIF list, the SIL determination, and the SIS subset of the P&ID extraction against each other; surface drift before the audit catches it
- Tag every SIS row with the voting architecture drawn on the P&ID (1oo1, 1oo2, 2oo2, 2oo3) so the SIL verification step has the architecture as data, not as a manual lookup
- Diff against the previous validated baseline and surface every SIS scope add, drop, or vote change as a single change report for the MOC
Where it fits in your week.
SIL determination refresh
P&ID revision lands. Run extraction, filter to SIS, diff against the validated baseline. The SIF list update becomes a 30-minute review instead of a week of paper walking, and the SIL determination report references the diff directly.
LOPA review evidence pull
Independent review wants every SIF traced to a P&ID page and a cause-effect row. Filter the extraction to SIS, sort by SIF, hand the reviewer a list with source-page and matrix-row references per row.
SIS scope handoff to the logic-solver vendor
TÜV-certified SIL 2 logic solver vendor needs the SIS instrument list, the CE matrix, and the SIF list in one package. Pull all three from the same drawing set, ship the package in the vendor's expected column format.
FAQ.
Does Tagsight produce a SIL determination or a LOPA worksheet?
No. Tagsight extracts the as-drawn SIS scope (instruments, voting architecture, cause-effect logic). The SIL determination, the LOPA worksheet, and the IEC 61511 verification step stay in your validated process-safety package. The extracted data is the input to that calculation.
Are voting architectures (1oo2, 2oo3) preserved from the P&ID?
Yes. Voting annotations on the P&ID extract as a column on the instrument row. A '2oo3' annotation on a PSH array preserves the architecture for the SIL verification step; the extraction does not silently normalize voting notation.
